Collection: DEHNshield

DEHNshield Type 1 + Type 2 Combination Surge Arresters

The space and application-optimized DEHNshield device family offers distinctive advantages exclusive to spark gap-based Type 1 + Type 2 surge arresters. This includes the unique Wave-Breaking Function (WBF) that reduces lightning impulse current to levels safe for downstream protection stages and end devices without risk of damage.

Wave-Breaking Function Advantage

The Wave-Breaking Function combined with pulse duration reduction ensures lightning energy is safely handled by downstream protection stages. As a combination arrester, DEHNshield provides both lightning protection equipotential bonding (up to 50 kA / 10/350 µs lightning impulse current) and overvoltage protection in a single arrester stage—setting it apart from conventional varistor-based arresters in this application and performance class.

Space-Saving Design

DEHNshield's compact single-pole spark gap design makes it the ideal solution for residential buildings and space-constrained installations. It's particularly suitable for buildings without external lightning protection but with roof structures or overhead line supply where VdS 2031 recommends Type 1 arresters at the supply point.

Easy Installation & Selectivity

  • Flexible Protection: Can be used without additional main protection up to 160 A circuit protection
  • Energetic Coordination: When distances between DEHNshield and consumers are ≤ 10 m, even end devices are protected
  • Selective to Small Fuse Ratings: Non-blow-out spark gap technology with follow current limiting ensures selectivity down to 35 A gG fuses—upstream fuses are not triggered by mains follow current
  • Easy Integration: Compatible with DEHN busbar systems and pin connector terminals for simple distribution installation

Simple Selection & Status Indication

Device selection is straightforward—simply match the network configuration of your low-voltage installation with the device type designation. The operation-independent function/fault indicator on each protection path provides immediate status. Standard green-red visual marking is included, with FM variants featuring three-pole terminal blocks for remote signaling via potential-free changeover contacts.

Standards & Applications

  • Type 1 + Type 2 Surge Arresters (EN 61643-11)
  • VdS 2031 compliant for installations without external lightning protection
  • Energetically coordinated within the Red/Line product family
  • Suitable for unmetered sections of low-voltage consumer installations upstream of metering
